Source : Bill Johnstone 13/06/2010 email In 1927 the family emigrated to New Zealand, and eventually settled in the Dargaville area.
His education was cut short by the death of his father when Lewis was just 17, and he returned to work on the family farm.
When WWII broke out, Lewis enlisted in the army, and served in North Africa where he was captured by the German army, and then spent 3 years as a P.O.W in Italy and Germany.
After the war he married Betsy WRIGHT, and they bought a block of scrubland and developed it into a productive farm in the Dargaville area. They later sold the farm and retired to Baylys Beach, where he died aged 81.
Arthur married Catherine Elisabeth (Betsy) WRIGHT.
